What transformation requires of us.
Can I share a secret?
When I started Belief Statements in early 2023, my intention was to create a self-sustaining product company that would provide a bit of passive revenue for me in the background of my life.
I had been given this beautiful vision for a discreet line of products that were inspired by my own journey overcoming depression and self-doubt and I thought I could set up a few interconnecting systems that would allow people to experience that message and the products with little input from me.
At that time, I remember distinctly saying that I never wanted the brand to feature me or my face. I didn’t even want my bio on the site as the founder. I simply wanted to work with a person or two to create a basic flywheel that would provide goodness and encouragement in the world, and then let it run.
Wow, did God have other plans.
Within a few short weeks, it became clear to me that the products were just a tool and the real impact would be in women sharing their stories with one another. And that had to start with me.
It meant I needed to share “why” I had even started this company. How I had discovered daily, somatic practices as a pathway for inner healing. And the authentic story of what I had walked through to get there. It required vulnerability and sharing parts of my story that I never thought I would be asked to disclose.
It meant more time from me, and more people to support the mission. It meant new product lines, and offerings, and showing up in spaces that were way outside my realm of experience.
In short, it meant discomfort, and surrender.
As we enter 2024, it will be a transformational year for the company, and for me. We have more people working on all of this to make it valuable to every person who encounters the work. We are expanding our product offerings. We are innovating how we walk alongside each of you on this journey from self-doubt to transformative belief in oneself, and others. We are writing more content, creating live experiences, and partnering with platforms that can amplify this message.
Not because we want to do more, but because I am committed to a generation of women who believe in themselves. And from that place of inner healing, I know that they will change their worlds and also the world at large.
As I’ve been sharing this vision of transformation with the team, it’s been uncomfortable. It has required each of us to stare our “edges” straight in the face.
“I’ve never done that before.”
”I’m not qualified to do that.”
“But what if I fail and mess it up?”
These are common refrains as we’ve been exploring what this year will require of each of us individually and collectively.
I share this vulnerable reflection because my hunch is that many of us are asking these questions as well. If you’re allowing transformation in your story, then it’s likely that fear, self-doubt, and discomfort are also nearby.
What I’m learning on this journey is that transformation requires three core things of us:
Accountability: It demands that we take responsibility for our actions and choices, recognizing the impact that our courage to step into our purpose will have on our life, and the lives of others. Accountability is the foundation upon which transformation is built.
Moving with a sense of purpose: Transformation is fueled by a clear understanding of our goals and a commitment to align our actions with our aspirations. A sense of purpose guides us through challenges and keeps us motivated on our transformative path.
Honest communication: Transparency and authenticity in our interactions with ourselves and others are crucial for transformation. Honest communication enables us to confront our fears, address issues, and build genuine connections that support our journey of growth.
Our path of growth is rarely linear or predictable. It is in the discomfort, vulnerability, and surrender that we find the crucible of transformation, where we are remade into the best versions of ourselves.
As we navigate the year ahead, may you know that you are not alone in confronting uncertainties; the questions and fears we face are shared by many on similar journeys of self-discovery and personal growth.
My hope for all of us is that we can boldly commit to a path that we are convicted of, but perhaps may be unclear (at the moment).
